About Us

Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Emergency Communications, also known as R3EMCOMM, is an all-volunteer public service organization (PSO). Our mission is threefold…

To prepare ourselves, our families, and our community for a time when all traditional means of communication (e.g., phone and cell phone service, internet, radio, television, etc.) are temporarily inoperable or have ceased to operate.

Our team is composed of licensed amateur radio operators and interested members of the community who enjoy or want to learn more about amateur radio as well as what we call “radio for all.” Many of our amateur radio operators have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment to provide communication needs in times of emergency and for public service events.

All members of the community are invited to join R3EMCOMM. Unlike most traditional amateur radio groups, you do not need to hold an amateur radio license to be a member of R3EMCOMM, but it would be great if you were interested in learning more about General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) or working your way toward a Technician, General, or Extra class amateur radio operator’s license as regulated by the Federal Communications Commission. We are here to help!

As members of the community, we are dedicated to serving Culpeper, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock counties and the communities they serve by working hand in hand with local and state governments, agencies, and other organizations, including the Virginia Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).

Please let a volunteer at R3EMCOMM know if you have any questions that we might answer!
